owh… THAT on a wordless post?! There is so much to say about this first department store of the Netherlands (1839)! There even is an (at the time) naughty rhyme about this store, one of the huge female figures broke the medieval city crane… so much to tell… See more here: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winkel_van_Sinkel (Dutch only…sorry)
I have written about the Winkel van Sinkel before, and I have some photos of the female figures to post when I finally get around to posting more of my koninginnedag photos. Is the medieval city crane the one that used to be right there at the Oudegracht in front of where the store is?
Oh sorry I didn’t know you already wrote about it! Yes, that is the one right in front of this building. But I now read the crane was ‘only’ 200 years old in the late 1830s, so that is hardly medieval….

I never saw this side of the building!
It really caught my eye on Monday, with the blue sky and the flag flying. It all looked so crisp!
Hhhhmmm… does that count as a wordless post? :p
It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve cheated.
