Weather Report

Hot. With more hot expected.

I’m pretty sure that’s the forecast through the weekend. Europe seems to be in the midst of a bit of a heat wave recently, and for once, we haven’t been left out. As of right now, I believe the temperature is 31C/87F. Part of me thinks, no, it can’t be that warm. Yet, I’ve noticed today that even downstairs in the coolest, darkest spot in the house, it’s incredibly warm. I’m much more conscious of it than I have been the rest of the week. We really should look into getting a fan.

This warm weather is supposed to continue through the weekend, with bonus rain, to make things that bit more hot and humid. Ah, just like home!  Fortunately (for me anyway), the temperatures are supposed to break come Monday or Tuesday. One forcast called for a high of 19C/66F. I’m almost giddy at the thought! I can leave the house again without dying of heat stroke!

  1. oh yeah, its so hot these days. i came from the tropics but this heat still makes me dizzy especially in the afternoon. worst thing about it is that there are no airconditiong systems here.

    • I come from Florida and other parts of the Deep South in the US, where heat and humidity are quite common, but I’ve never handled the heat well at all. But yes, even there, we at least had air conditioning to make it more bearable!

  2. Orlando has found a great way to cool down 😉 I love this photo!

I’ve got a fan blowing at me, and a friend suggested every now and again putting a small damp towel into the refrigerator and then applying it to your head and neck sometimes. There seem to be a lot of methods to help, but AC would be soooooooo wonderful!

    Keep cool!

  3. I lived in NY for a while and had one long weekend when the heat got unbearable. I used to take a large towel and soak it with water, then stick it in the freezer for a while, then drape it across myself while sitting in front of a fan. It was surprisingly effective. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who has done that, though!

As I type, my boyfriend is off to Blokker to look for a fan. I think our dog will be quite grateful!

  4. Miserable down in Maastricht as well. I don’t know what the humidty has been; I suspect that is a bigger problem than the temperature. I remember days of 95 and humid in the midwest growng up and this still feels worse.

  5. Ah, the infamous “dry heat”. I know nothing about this mythical heat; I only know wet heat. The kind where you feel like you’re swimming through warm water instead of walking.

  6. Cute photo! Don’t you wish the warmer weather could be with us now? I walked outside today and was not prepared for the chilly fall weather I was met with!
