This is a bit of a World Cup wrap-up edition of Photo Friday. I’m still going through a bit of withdrawal from not having regular matches to watch, and yes, I’m still a bit sad about the outcome. And that’s all I’ll say on that. After all, judging from the parade/party that took place on Tuesday in Amsterdam, you’d never know we got silver instead of gold. There was a huge boat parade of the Dutch team through some of the canals of Amsterdam, with people following along in their own boats, or lining the canals for a view.
They even watched from the rooftops.
The players were having a good time, as well.
After the boat tour, they ended up at the Museumplein for another massive orange party.
It was a fun party to watch, even just on tv. (Yes, I took photos of the television, but it was to help my non-Netherlands-living readers get a better idea of just what kind of party went on!)
For a better feel for it all, here’s a video someone made with clips from the televised festivities.
Wow, great coverage of the celebrations in A’dam on tv!
I have to say that I also feel a bit strange, not having to plan to be at home to watch a match and that kind of thing!
I think you might feel right at home if you ever chose to visit Argentina π Come Sunday and after the “asado” (kind of bbq but on a monumental scale) watching the match wherever you are, is sacred!
That sounds like a dream Sunday!
They sailed right past my office so I was able to watch it on TV and then pop out to watch when I saw they were near by. It was crazy. It makes me wonder what it would have been like if Holland had won.
That sounds like a good way to watch! Another friend of mine could see the boat from his office window, which was about as close as he was interested in getting. If they had won, I’m not sure people would have stopped partying since Sunday, so the parade would have just been a continuation! π
If they had won I don’t think I would have been able to get into Amsterdam for work
I only have a few memories of when we won the European Championship in ’88. On the day itself all I remember are honking cars, people hanging out their car windows with flags waving. Vaguely watching the broadcast of the celebrations in the canals.
But I probably went outside to play, since it was summer and I was 8. π
Well, hopefully they’ll win the European Championship in 2012. π
I don’t blame you for going outside to play, though. Sounds fun at any age! I wonder if I can find any swings big enough for me. I want to go outside and play today!
I really enjoyed watching the games. Im not usually into soccer at all but you can’t help but get caught up in it all!
