Just a few words … Dodenherdenking (Remembrance Day) takes place each year on 4 May. It honors civilians and military personnel who have given their lives in service to the Netherlands since the outbreak of World War II. The flags fly at half-mast, as this one was doing today in Den Haag (The Hague). More about my visit tomorrow.
Are you going to Domplein tonight? The bells of the Domtower are always so very impressive this night, especially when right after the darkest of them all finally stops there are two minutes of silence with hundreds of people all around you.
My flag is flying half-mast too since just now.
Have a good evening!
I was on the train yesterday and they announced that the train was going to for the two mins silence. I thought that was great. I can’t imagine that happening in London.
I saw the ceremony in the Nieuwe kerk and the Dam yesterday. I also saw the interviews to members of the Resistance in Groningen – it was very touching.
Are you going to the Bevrijdingsfestival in U. today? I hear it’s completely packed full.
