Expats in NL and Other Links

Although I think it’s important to try to make friends with locals in order to more easily settle in to a new country, there is something comforting in finding fellow expats. It’s nice to see that you’re not the only one fascinated or amused by certain elements of your adopted home. I’ve found the blogs of quite a few here in the Netherlands — although mostly in Amsterdam, it sometimes seems — and wanted to share them, since everyone takes something different out of their experiences. There are also a few written by Dutch people that offer their own perspective on life here.

  1. Hi!

Thanks for posting my blog. Unfortunately I haven’t been very good at keeping it up…hopefully I’ll get back into it.

If it’s ok, I’d like to add you to my links.

    Take care,

    Melissa

  2. Nice collection! I’d love to see what other ex-pats are up to 🙂 Thanks for sharing and thanks for including my blog there 😉

  3. Hello, I’m almost a month here in the Netherlands, Utrecht specifically, and i’ve been looking for friends who has the same interest as I do. I stumble into your blog and found it very interesting. I’m maintaining a blog, since I was living in Singapore so part of it is about Singapore and starting to blog about life in the Netherlands as well as some travels. Oops, minor detail, my blog focused mainly on food…basically its more of a food blog, with time outs and blog about my insights here and there.

I’m interested in meeting up with expat bloggers so if you have any gathering, let me know if its ok to join…are you staying in Utrecht?

    • Welcome to Utrecht! I’ve been browsing your blog and now I’m starving! So many delicious items!

I get together periodically with other expats, and the next time we join up, I’ll let you know. It’s always nice getting to know new people who have something in common, even if it’s just moving to the Netherlands.

  4. Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I’ve enjoyed reading your blog. After moving to Utrecht about a month and a half ago (from Texas), I’m starting to reach out and try to meet people. If you guys have another expat get together, I would love to join!

Also, I’d love it if you could add my blog http://alldutchtome.blogspot.com/ to the list.

    Thanks so much!

    Heidi

    • Welcome! It’s always nice to find other expats here in Utrecht. I’m not sure if we’ll get to any other meetups before the end of the year, but the beginning of the year is bound to see some of us gathering for drinks, dinner or something. I’ve recently met another expat from Texas here in Utrecht. If you’re into knitting or crocheting, we’ve discussed going to one of the stitch ‘n’ bitch events over at the Winkel van Sinkel in the new year. Stay warm and enjoy the snow!

  5. Hi! I’m not really in to knitting or crocheting … have tried both and have become extremely frustrated. Anything that involves thread is just not for me! I appreciate the invite, though, and look forward to possibly meeting you in the new year. Happy holidays!

    • I’ve been reading you for a while, so I certainly had to include you! Actually, I need to update the list. I’m sure there are lots of others that I’ve started reading but forgotten to add.

  6. Looks like you’ve found a wonderful community of friends. And you’re right, in this case familiarity does not breed contempt, as the old adage goes. Familial is like, well…family.

    hugs…for sharing… 🙂
